Shipping Stages (Multi-Wave Shipping)

Shipping stages are an optional setup that define and manage how you send pledges.

Use them when you plan to fulfill orders in multiple waves.

You do not need shipping stages if you send all items in a backer order at the same time.

If you choose two wave shipping, the first wave sends the main part of the pledge, such as the core reward.

The later wave sends remaining items when they are ready, such as localized versions, bonus content, or stretch goals.

You choose how many waves you use and which items each wave contains.

A. Define Stages and Content

  1. Go to Project > Settings > Shipping and taxes > Shipping stages.

  2. Add a two-wave stage or create more waves if you need them.

    Adding shipping stages

  3. Enter a description and an estimated shipping date for each stage.

Backers see this information during checkout.

  4. Assign products to stages.

Select the three dot menu and choose Add a product to this stage.

  5. Turn on Is final for the last stage in your sequence.

This marks the wave that sends everything that remains.

B. Link3 Stages to Shipping Models

Stages only apply when you link them to your Shipping Models.

When you configure a Shipping Model, select the stages that the model supports.

For example, a Split Shipment model may include Wave One and Wave Two.

Shipping models general settings

Under Order availability in the model advanced settings, choose how stage content controls model visibility:

  • Available for all orders.
  • Available only for orders with at least one item belonging to any of the shipping stages linked to this model.
  • Available only for orders where all items belong to shipping stages linked to this model.

C. Stage Statuses and Critical Warnings

Changing a stage status takes effect immediately and cannot be undone.

Use these states to manage your progress:

Status Description
Unspecified The initial state while backers can still place pledges.
Ready for Shipping Marks the wave as ready to ship. Linked models disappear for new pledges or unfinished orders. For example, if you have a split model that covers Wave One and Wave Two and a single shipment model that covers only Wave Two, the split model stops being available after you set Wave One to Ready for shipping.
Shipped Marks the specific wave as complete.
