Establishing Shipping Models

Shipping Model is a set of settings that defines the shipment options available to backers. It can represent a shipping method, such as a courier, post service, a specific shipping hub, or even local pickup. You can have as many models as you need, and shipping prices for each model may be different.

To access and start creating shipping models, go to "Project" -> "Settings" -> "Shipping & taxes" and then click "Shipping models".

Model Creation and Control

  1. Name and Visibility: The model's name will be visible to backers during checkout, so ensure it is understandable.
  2. Default Selection: The "Is Default" option means that this option will be pre-selected in the checkout process when a backer chooses the shipping model.
  3. Availability: The "Is Enabled" function defines whether this option is available to backers. You can quickly turn a model on or off depending on your needs, for example, disabling local pickup when it is no longer available.

Detailed Model Configuration

After clicking on the model's name, you can adjust detailed options:

  • Minimum Shipping Cost: You can set the minimum shipping cost. If the total with handling fees falls below this number, this minimum will apply instead.

  • Handling Fee: Turn this on to apply a handling fee on top of the calculated shipping cost (minimum shipping cost is not considered). You can choose how to calculate the handling fee - either opt for a percentage of the shipping cost or a flat fee for each order.

  • Volumetric Weight: You can enable the calculation of shipping cost using volumetric weight; the system will select the higher weight between the actual weight and the volumetric weight. Requires setting Dimensions parameter in each applicable product's shipping settings.

Advanced Availability Settings

In the "Zone availability" or under "Show advanced settings", you will configure availability:

  • Zone Availability: Under the General tab on the left, you will find "Zone availability" where you can enable or disable the shipping zones for which this specific model will be available.

  • Restrict by User Group: You can restrict availability of the shipping model to specific user groups.

  • Order Availability (applicable when using shipping stages): This setting defines how this model is available to backers at checkout based on its content. You can set up availability for all orders, orders with at least one item belonging to any of the shipping stages linked to this model, or orders where all items belong to shipping stages linked to this model.
