Establishing Shipping Models
A Shipping Model is a set of settings that defines the shipment options available to backers.
A model can represent a courier, a postal service, a specific shipping hub, or local pickup.
You can add as many models as your project needs, and each model can use different prices.
To create and manage shipping models, go to Project > Settings > Shipping and taxes and select Shipping models.

Model creation and control

Name and visibility
Backers see the name of the model at checkout, so choose a clear and recognizable name.
Default selection
Turn on Is Default to preselect this model during checkout when a backer chooses a shipping option.
Availability
Use Is Enabled to make the model available or unavailable to backers.
You can turn a model on or off at any time, such as switching off local pickup when that option is not possible.
Detailed model configuration

Select a Shipping Model name to adjust its settings.
Minimum shipping cost
Set a minimum shipping cost. If the calculated cost plus handling fees is lower than this amount, the minimum applies.

Handling fee
Turn on handling fees to add a charge on top of the calculated shipping cost (minimum shipping cost is not considered).
Choose whether the fee is a percentage of the shipping cost or a flat amount per order.

Volumetric weight
Turn on volumetric weight to calculate shipping based on both actual weight and volumetric weight.
The system uses the higher value.
This feature needs product dimensions in each product’s shipping settings.

Advanced availability settings
You manage availability in Zone availability or Show advanced settings.
Zone availability
Open the General tab to enable or disable the zones where this model is available.

Restrict by user group
Limit access to the model for selected user groups if needed. To learn more about user groups, go to Create and edit backer groups.

Order availability
This setting applies when you use shipping stages. To learn more about shipping stages, go to Shipping Stages (Multi-Wave Shipping).
You can choose to make the model available for:
- all orders
- orders with at least one item linked to any stage assigned to the model
- orders where all items belong to stages assigned to the model
